The Maine Sporting Camps tradition started over a century ago, long before L.L. Bean pulled on his first pair of boots. In fact, some camps have remained in the same family and have guests who return year after year, even generation after generation. While these guests' grandparents may have traveled by railroad, steam boat, horse-drawn wagon or canoe, this generation has access by float planes or gravel logging roads. What has not changed is the hospitality and variety of experience offered to the outdoor enthusiast. There is a choice of location from very remote to within a mile of a small town; from rustic log cabins without electricity to updated places with all the amenities. In addition to the
traditional American Plan, which provides three hearty, home-cooked meals served in an attractive main lodge, many camps offer housekeeping plans for guests who want to do their own cooking. Nearly all camps provide canoe and motor boat rentals and many will offer the services of knowledgeable Maine Guides.
The Maine Sporting Camp Association was founded in 1987 by a group of concerned camp owners whose purpose was to preserve the sporting camp's uniqueness in the State of Maine. By working closely with other groups and exchanging ideas and information, the members of Maine Sporting Camps Association continue the tradition of providing the highest quality of recreational experience to individuals and their families... a quality experience that will long be remembered.
